Cades Cove Campground offers both tent and RV camping and is the perfect weekend getaway destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle! Want to plan a trip? Let us help you with some of the planning with this sample itinerary for a few days spent camping in Cades Cove:

Day 1:

A photo of Abrams Falls, one of the top Cades Cove hiking trails.

Your camping trip to the Smokies should definitely include some hiking! One of the best trails in Cades Cove to visit year-round is the Abrams Falls Trail. This is a moderately challenging hike that is 5 miles roundtrip. While the namesake is only 25 feet tall, the waterfall looks mighty with a large volume of water rushing down the rocks. The rocks around the water are slippery, so wear sturdy shoes to help maintain your balance. We suggest packing a picnic lunch to enjoy on the banks as you admire the view!

When you get to Abrams Falls, relax and do a little fishing. The waters of Abrams Creek are known for having an abundant population of wild rainbow trout. Fishing is permitted in the area from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Make sure you have a valid North Carolina or Tennessee fishing license.

Day 2:

A great way to spend a day in Cades Cove is to go for a bike ride on Cades Cove Loop Road. You can bring your own bike or rent one at the campground store. You'll see both stunning scenery and historical structures on the 11-mile route. Look out for the John Oliver cabin. It is the oldest human structure in the park. If you want to get an even closer look at things, park your bike nearby and go explore! You can go inside the John Oliver Cabin and the churches around the loop.

After your bike ride, head back to the campground to relax. Pick up a delicious ice cream cone from the campground store! If you want something savory, you can get a slice of pizza or a hot dog. But it wouldn’t be a Cades Cove camping trip without a cookout! Whether you grill hamburgers and hot dogs or simply roast s’mores over the fire, nothing is more relaxing than sitting by the fire and spending quality time with your camping buddies.

Day 3:

If you have some extra time before you have to drive home, there are a couple of short hiking trails you could take, such as the Cades Cove Nature Trail or the Wet Bottom Trail, for a peaceful walk in the woods. After you pack up, say farewell to Cades Cove by going on one last scenic drive. This time, take an alternate route to leave the park so you can enjoy some new scenery and less traffic! One of the best options is Rich Mountain Road. The entrance is about halfway through Cades Cove Loop Road, across from the Missionary Baptist Church. The route is 7 miles long and ends in Townsend TN.
