Visitors love looking at all the pretty scenery in Cades Cove TN. There is no right time to visit, as each season brings its own beauty to the picturesque valley surrounded by the mountains:

  • Spring and Summer: More than 800 species of wildflowers bloom in the area each year, such as Lady Slippers and Mountain Laurel. You’ll see wildflowers as early as late March all the way through summer. (Picking them is prohibited.)
  • Fall: The once green leaves take on vibrant shades. The peak for fall colors occurs in mid-October through early November.
  • Winter: After the leaves fall, winter brings the exciting chance of snow. The vast fields are covered in a thick blanket of white, and there are pretty icicle patterns hanging from the trees.

  • Hiking: There are seemingly endless miles of trails in all levels of difficulty. For example, the Cades Cove Nature Trail is great for beginners, while Gregory Bald is best suited for experienced hikers. Each trail will give you a chance to explore and be out in the fresh air.
  • Biking: Cades Cove Loop Road is a great bike route with lots to see; vehicle-free days in the summer are the best time for bicyclists. Bring your own ride or rent one for the day.
Scenic Drives: Take a scenic drive in your own vehicle on the 11-mile loop or other routes in the area, such as Parson Branch Road and Rich Mountain Road (seasonal).
  • Camping: The Cades Cove Campground offers tent and RV campsites that are available all year; backcountry sites are also available for backpacking enthusiasts.
  • Horseback Riding: The Cades Cove Stables are open during the warmer months. Go on a horseback riding tour of the area with a guide. The stables also offer carriage rides and hayrides!
