  • Picnic Areas: You can go to Cades Cove to have a picnic with Fido. The Cades Cove Picnic Area is located off Laurel Creek Road before the main loop; it is open year-round. Pack a sandwich for yourself and some treats for him. When you finish eating, go for a nice walk in the grassy area around the table.
  • In Your Vehicle: Fido can stay in your vehicle with you as you drive around Cades Cove Loop Road. Admire the sights and roll the window down to let some fresh air in. This drive is popular, so the best time to do it is in the morning. If you arrive really early, you may be able to catch the vibrant sunrise.
  • Campgrounds: After you finish your food and do a scenic drive, plan a camping trip to stay in Cades Cove a little longer. Dogs are allowed in the frontcountry campgrounds around the area. Unlike the backcountry campsites, these are open year-round because visitors camp close to their vehicles. They also have access to restrooms with cold running water. Make a fire to stay warm in the cool evenings! Snuggle up in the tent for a good night’s sleep. Keep in mind that campgrounds require a reservation and a fee!

Places in Cades Cove Where Dogs Are Not Allowed

Dogs are not allowed on any of the hiking trails in Cades Cove. This is to keep them safe from potential run-ins with wildlife and uneven rocky terrain. It also prevents damage to fragile vegetation. Dogs are also not allowed in any of the historical structures on Cades Cove Loop Road. The National Park Service works hard on the preservation of these old buildings and wants to keep them intact for years to come!
